  About the Department

The Department of Information Technology was started in the year 2001 with the annual intake of 60 students. The first batch has turned out in the year 2005 with high profile academic achievers. Since its inception, the focus of the Department has been to provide advanced training in core sectors of Information Technology and to foster high quality interdisciplinary research in these fields with globalization of Indian Economy, vast opportunities of growth have been thrown open for the software and IT industry.

To provide a quality learning environment, in terms of inspiring teachers, state-of-the-art facilities, experience sharing and widening the knowledge horizon, interacting with experts from academia and industry, facilitating the student in the process of growth in the information technology field.

Measures to Improve Teaching Learning Process:

    Lesson Plan

  • The lesson plan includes number of hours needed to complete the syllabus, Books to be referred, Tutorials, Assignments, Seminars, Self Study topics.
  • The faculty in-charge collects the University Question Papers of the previous examinations and Question Bank is prepared for the benefit of the students. Question Bank for all the subjects is also distributed to the students in the beginning of the semester.
  • Seminars to be conducted on certain topics are also planned. The topics are given to the students well in advance with necessary guidance.
  • For Analytical papers, the problems that are to be solved during class hours and tutorial hours are also planned.
  • For Practical Subjects, list of experiments to be conducted are planned earlier and a manual with algorithm and execution procedure are also prepared.

    Method of Teaching

  • The class notes are prepared by referring various textbooks, reference books, manuals etc.
  • It is a normal practice to revise the portion of subject that has been taught in the previous class for first 5 minutes by asking question, check their notebooks for the completion of work that was given on the previous day.
  • The lecture is given for 40 to 45 minutes as per the planned agenda .The summary of the lecture hour is done for the last 5 minutes.
  • For topics based on diagrams, graphs and table, faculty is advised to use transparencies for presentation. For programming subjects, practical demonstration is also conducted.
  • Self study topics are also given to the student to develop their technical skills in subject related areas.
  • Assignment topics are announced unit wise and they are corrected and return back to the students
  • Tutorial classes are conducted for the Problematic Subjects.
  • The HOD constantly watches records of course delivery system of faculty.
  • Conducting 2 internal assessment tests with duration of 1 ½ hours and 1 model examination with 3 hours duration.
  • Conducting class committee meeting after every internal assessment test to analyze the results .Based on the review made, corrective and preventive action are performed.
  • Based on the result analysis, students who are weak in studies are identified in order to give them more attention. For coaching those students
  • Remedial classes are also arranged after working hours.
  • Make up tests are conducted after working hours for the students who got failed in the cycle tests.
  • Similarly Result analysis is done of University examination and performance variations are noted and preventive measures are taken
  • Student feedback is collected once a semester. Assessments of feedback in the department meetings help to have a clear picture about handling of subject by the faculty and based this, Corrective actions are taken.
  • The HOD takes even oral feedback at regular intervals regarding the progress and immediate actions are taken and improvements are achieved.
  • In Department staff meetings, review is made on syllabus coverage, absenteeism of students, and compliance of other planned activities.
  • The class committee meeting is also arranged for the Students to know the difficulties of the students and the requirements for the class.


  • For male students and female students in a class, there is a separate counselor appointed for counseling them personally.
  • They counsel them periodically and identify their difficulties, motivate and help them to improve their performance.
  • In case of problems, the HoD /counselor do counseling along with the parent/guardian.
  • Consecutive 3 days of uniformed absence is intimated to their parents and they are called for explanation.


  • To improve the level of specialized knowledge and to make aware of current trends, guest lectures by industrialist, IT professionals and specialists in their respective field are also arranged.
  • To improve the personality of the students, they are encouraged and motivated to present papers in seminars, to participate in quiz and other inter college competitions.

    Co-Curricular Activities

  • Co-curricular and extra curricular activities of the students are encouraged. A faculty is given responsibility of these co-curricular activities and collects information about various competitions and intimate the students then motivate them to participate and maintain records on their achievements.

    Industry - Institution Interaction

  • Guest lectures are arranged for the development of students. On an average, 2 eminent industrialists and experts on specific area are invited in a year for conducting guest lectures and workshops.
  • In plant training, Industrial visit and Project are encouraged.
  • Additional Courses are arranged for the students to improve their programming skills.
