  About the Department

Department of Mechanical Engineering was started in the year 1998 with the annual intake of 60 students. At present the annual intake has been increased to 180 students. Department has 33 teaching and 10 non-teaching faculty members.

Department of Mechanical Engineering offers a unique 4-year under graduate programme leading to a degree in Mechanical Engineering and 2 year Post Graduate programme leading to a M.E Degree in Manufacturing Engineering.


Mechanical Engineering is one of the core fields of Engineering covering Thermal, Design, Manufacturing, Quality Assurance, Maintenance and Management streams. M.I.E.T. offers UG and PG education for creative thinking, product or system designing, ability to overcome constraints and provides effective teamwork with professional ethics. These valuable skills could launch a career in automobile, aerospace, banking, finance, consulting, management, and so on.

Our Mechanical department has appropriate infrastructure to offer quality education and training through state of art technology with well equipped laboratory facilities and also has dedicated, qualified and experienced faculty members in different specialization. Research and Development Centre is the iconic feature of our Mechanical Department.

Every student is given a comprehensive insight into the various concepts that are related to Mechanical Engineering. In manufacturing technology, students are learned about the various types of machines tools and their working principles. In Mechatronics, the students learn about PLC, microcontroller, PID controller, stepper motor etc. In Thermal engineering, performance of air compressor, conduction, convection and radiation experimental system, the students gather knowledge about CAD/CAM software packages like Fanuc control system, CNC machines for turning and milling, dynamics and metrology experiments. In Fluid mechanics and machinery, the students are taught the working of different meters like orifice meter, venturimeter, Pitot tube, Francis turbine, Kaplan turbine, centrifugal pump, reciprocating pump etc. In strength of materials, the students learned about the working of Universal testing machine, Izod and charpy test, Brinell hardness testing machine, Rockwell hardness testing machine, heat treatment furnace, etc., In basic workshops, the students learn about the tools and simple working principles of machine tools and safety measures about welding, carpentry, sheet metal and plumbing works.

Apart from the theory classes, the students are practically trained on various laboratories during their course tenure. Students are encouraged to participate in the co-curricular activities like paper presentations, attending seminars and workshops etc. Staff meetings have been conducted by the HOD for staff members periodically for discussing and informing the various issues so as to maintain coordination. Class committee meeting has been conducted for the students after the cycle tests and the student’s grievances were rectified. Separate question bank has been prepared for every subject by the faculty members and it was given to all the students in the form of booklet for both odd and even semester for welfare of the students to improve the results.

The students of pre final, final year students of UG & PG presenting papers in National level and International level conferences and also participating in various project exhibitions and competitions. On the whole, department supports and guides the students in every successful aspects to build strong knowledge in the technical areas of mechanical engineering to face the future with confidence.
