The Department of Science and Humanities of M.I.E.T. Engineering College was launched in the year 1998. The primary objective of the department is to teach and train the First year engineering students admitted in all programs. The department boasts of a brilliant four team of teachers who engage and excel in teaching Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics and English subjects. The department also takes care of imparting English language skills on the students facilitating them to read and communicate in English with confidence. The basic principles embedded in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics and their application in the engineering subjects are taught to the new entrants based on syllabi prescribed by the Anna University, Chennai.
The faculty members of the Department of Science and Humanities are highly qualified with rich teaching experience and many of them are doctorate degree holders. The well-equipped physics and chemistry laboratories are spaciously designed to play a vital role in the facilitation of acquiring practical knowledge of the subjects. A separate language laboratory is an admirable addition for promoting communication and other English language skills effectively. The laboratory is also equipped with a smart board coupled with RENET software to enhance the learning process of the students. Group discussion training and mock interviews are conducted to the students to strengthen the team building skills. The students are motivated to participate in the seminars, workshops, mini projects and conferences organized by other reputed institutions. The department encourages the students to organize Annual Symposium – ‘SPARKERS’, quiz program, oratorical contest etc., to develop their skills and talents to shine well in life. In order to encourage diligent and distinguished students, special prizes are awarded to those students who secure highest Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) in the Anna University Examinations. Library as a brain centre acts as a window to knowledge. Bearing in this view, to encourage the utilization of library, ‘Best Library user Award’ is annually awarded to the students based on the frequency of visits and maximum use of library.
A potential band of committed and highly qualified dedicated teachers coupled with laboratory facilities in a well-motivated environment are responsible to prepare the first year B.E students of our college to move on to the rest of the course with courage, confidence and conviction.
