About the Department

The Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering was launched in the year 2001 with Undergraduate Programme (B.E.,) and sanctioned student intake of 60.The Postgraduate Programme (M.E.,) in Very Large Scale Integration Design (VLSI Design) was started in the year 2010.The Syllabi prescribed by Anna University, Chennai are followed for both B.E and M.E Programme. The major areas of these programmes include Digital Electronics, Electronics Circuits, Signals and Systems, Communication Theory, Digital Signal Processing, VLSI Design, Optical Communication, Advanced Wireless Communication, Satelite Communication, Digital Image processing etc.

The Department of ECE is endowed with a team of qualified and experienced teachers having specialized in varied fields like VLSI Design, Communication Systems, Applied Electronics etc. They are all committed to provide a positive and a professional learning environment where students are inspired to become innovative and competent Engineers.

The Department of ECE is well equipped with the state-of-art Laboratories catering the academic needs of Students and Faculty. Major Laboratories of the Department are: Electronics Lab, VLSI Lab, Digital Signal Processing Lab, Digital Lab, Optical and Microwave Lab, Microprocessor and Microcontroller Lab, RF and Communication Lab. Besides the College Central Library, the Department Library is also serving as a primary source of reference to the students. Apart from regular Lecture classes and laboratory work, the students are involved in several co-curricular activities such as Technical Symposium, Project Display, Value Added Courses, Guest Lectures by eminent scholars with varied specializations, Training programmes,Career awareness programmes , Product development and Industrial Visits. The Value- added courses include interdisciplinary topics such as Embedded System Design, Hardware Modeling using Verilog, Machine learning with MATLAB, Internet of Things (IoT), PCB Design, Microwave Engineering and Digital System Design. The students are motivated to attend the Inplant Training in various companies for enriching their knowledge, technical skills and Professionalism.

The Department has signed two Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with LiveWire, Trichy and BSNL, Trichy . The MoUs are facilitating the students in Placements, Project Work, and Internship Programs and facilitating the Staff in Faculty research and Consultancy Services. Innovative Teaching

The department initiates innovative methods to make the students actively participate in the teaching-learning process through student centric learning activities such as google class room, audio/video lecturers, peer to peer learning, role play, demonstration of model, Inquiry based learning, collaborative learning etc.,

Google Classroom

The google classroom label describes the teaching structure that has students watching pre-recorded lessons at home and completing in-class assignments, as opposed to hearing lectures in class and doing homework at home. Teachers who implement the google classroom model often film their own instructional videos, but many also use pre-made videos from online sources.

Peer to Peer Learning

Three or four like-minded students are pooled together to form a group and to help each other in academic activities to excel in University examinations. The members of each group coordinate their efforts by producing quality output of the task given to them. Every member of the group shares his/her knowledge and ideas with other members of the group. It enhances individual’s knowledge and skills and inculcates team work and leadership quality. Peer to Peer review is obtained through which students are actively involved in their own learning and establishing a connection between the learner and the learning object.

Role play

An important key element to understand the concepts. In this activity a group of students are actively involved to demonstrate a particular concept in action. This will help the students to comprehend the topics with ease. The purpose of these activities is to ensure tracking students development, revealing the learning progress, highlighting the best work and involving the students in assessment process.

Demonstration of models

The real time working models are demonstrated in the class to connect the tangible model with the theoretical concept. This helps the students to easily understand the working principles of electrical engineering components.

Inquiry-based Learning

Encouraging students to ask questions and investigate their own ideas that helps in improving their problem-solving skills

Collaborative learning

Collaboration allows students to actively participate in the learning process by talking with each other and listening to others opinions. Collaboration establishes a personal connection between students and the topic of study and it helps students think in a less personally biased way. Group projects and discussions are the topics . Teachers may employ collaboration to assess student’s abilities to work as a team, leadership skills, or presentation abilities

About IEI Student Chapter ECE

The Institution of Engineers (India) is the leading multi-disciplinary engineering professional association in engineering and technology with over one million members across 15 engineering disciplines in 125 centres or chapters in India and abroad. It is credited for creating non-formal engineering education. The associate membership of the Institute of Engineers (India) is examined. The Ministry of HRD, Government of India, believes that this test is equivalent to a B.E. or B.Tech. The first professional organization to represent India in international organizations like the World Mining Congress (WMC), World Federation of Engineering Organizations (WFEO), Commonwealth Engineers’ Council (CEC), Federation International du Beton (fib), and Federation of Engineering Institutions of South and Central Asia (FEISCA) is the Institution of Engineers (India).

IEI Student Chapter

On April 26, 2023, the IEI student chapter of the ECE department at M.I.E.T. Engineering College, Trichy, was launched with 61 student members. A student’s professional growth can be aided by attending forums, panel discussion talks, and symposia through the student chapter. For IEI members and the larger engineering community, it acts as a centre of activity. IEI student chapters interact with their members through social events, field trips to interesting locations, technical and professional training, lectures and visits from good speakers, and other activities.

Objectives of Chapter

  • To encourage a research-oriented culture in aspiring engineers to aid in the country’s advancement.
  • To support the development of engineering generally and its uses.
  • The organization and its members may share and update their engineering and technology skills via technical activities,
  • Fostering and encouraging a rising commitment among engineers and technologists to the social goals of the profession.
